280 North Hobcaw

A waterfront home shaped by its Lowcountry setting — and a record of the work bringing it forward.

01

The house

A brick ranch, opened to light and marsh views

Built in 1968 and designed by South Carolina architect Sidney Stubbs, this mid-century modern ranch sits steps from Hobcaw Creek. Its long, low profile, screened porch, generous glass, private dock, and mature landscape give it a distinctly Lowcountry sense of place, while the interior holds onto its modernist roots — beamed ceilings, warm wood floors, and walls of glass.

This visual record brings together the setting, the house as it was, the work in progress, and the rooms as they are today. It is also a working history of the materials, decisions, and investments along the way.

Waterfront

Creek, marsh, and dock

The creek sets the orientation of the house — nearly every room looks toward the water. A private dock reaches into Hobcaw Creek, with spartina marsh on either side and sunsets over the water most evenings.

Exterior

From red brick to a lighter Lowcountry palette

The exterior transformation keeps the ranch profile intact. White-painted brick, warm wood doors, deep wood soffits, and feathery muhly grass give the approach a brighter, more deliberate character.
